Loren Chelleen, 84, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013. He was born February 13, 1929, to Tille and Charles Chelleen in Renton, Washington.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Chelleen; daughter, Deb Mendenhall of Des Moines; sons, Greg (Mary) Chelleen of Des Moines and Mark (Shirley) Chelleen of Urbandale; as well as eight grandchildren, Mike, Mark, Matt, Ashley, Stephanie, Brandon, Brad, and Adam; and one great-grandchild, Emmy. Loren was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside Burial of Cremated Remains will be held, 2:40 p.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at Mitchellville Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., at Hamilton’s Mitchellville Funeral Home, 303 Center Avenue. S., Mitchellville, IA.
Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in loving memory of Loren.

I would like to send my condolences to the Chelleen family, I was a basketball and track runner at Tech and graduated in 1982, I'll never forget his positive attitude and making a athlete feel like they
could do and accomplish anything, may God bless your family.

I would like to say how sorry I am to hear that Mr. (Coach) Chellen has passed. I was a player with him at Des Moines Technical High School. I enjoyed his enthusiasm, dedication and how he made it so enjoyable. He will be missed greatly; not just for coaching but because he was such a wonderful individual. May God keep your family during this difficult time.

Deepest sympathies to the Chelleen family.
I was a member of the senior class on Coach Chelleen's last baseball team at Tech High in 1982.
My teammates and I really appreciated Coach and his love and enthusiasm for coaching baseball and working with our team. There's no doubt we caused Coach a few headaches back in the day, but he was always there for us the next day with a positive attitude and an encouraging word.
Almost all of the ten seniors from the 1982 team still stay in touch on a regular basis & we've all connected today with heavy hearts since hearing the news about Coach.
Our hope is that the Chelleen family find peace in this time of sadness. Please accept our most sincere condolences.

My deepest condolences to all of you. I, so remember Mr. Chelleen as one of my teachers at Tech High (Class of 1977), and have never forgot the compassion he had for teaching his students. May he rest in peace and each of you be given strength as you cope during this difficult time. You will remain in my prayers for comfort and strength.
