Mary E. Rieck

Mary Ellen Rieck, 93, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at Union Park Care Center in Des Moines.

Mary Ellen was born on February 26, 1920, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Thomas W. and Sarah Anne (Hambilton) Foster. She graduated from East High School and her family home for years was on East Washington Avenue in Des Moines. Mary Ellen was a homemaker and wife of Ivan Vernon Rieck, who preceded her in death in 1977. Following her husband’s passing, Mary Ellen moved to Texas 1977, returning to Des Moines in 1994.

Mary Ellen is survived by her nieces Mona A. Sheeder and husband, George and Mary Blanchard, and husband Ron. She is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Bob and Tom, and other extended family members.

According to Mary Ellen’s wishes, her body has been cremated. A graveside, inurnment service will be held, 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 2, 2013, at Rising Sun Cemetery in Rising Sun Iowa.
