Service Details
Roger L. Onder, 68, passed away Wednesday October 16, 2013, at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Roger was born August 1, 1945, in Lovilia, Iowa, to Mike and Mildred (Nedderman) Onder. He graduated from East High School in 1964, was retired from the Des Moines Postal Service, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Purple Heart.
Roger is survived by his sisters, Dolores (Milo) Rockey and Margaret (Richard) Myres, and brothers, Edward and Richard Onder, all of Des Moines. He is also survived by one aunt, ten nieces and nephews, fourteen great-nieces and nephews, and four great-great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Robert and Donald Onder.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 21, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines, with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Burial of cremated remains will take place at 12:30 p.m., Monday, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for use towards inscribing Roger’s name on the Welcome Home Soldier Memorial in Albia, Iowa.

I worked with Roger at the United States Postal Service. Such a great guy! It was an honor to call him Friend. Rest well, Roger.

Roger and I graduated from East together in '64. We had no contact following high school, but I knew him to be and will remember him as one truly good and decent guy! I know he will be missed. My best wishes to his family.

Roger was a friend thru junior and high school. Had not seen him in 15 years. Sorry to hear about his death

Roger and I started at the Post Office together on October 7th, 1974. He was a good friend with a great sense of humor. I know Roger was forever haunted by what he experienced in Vietnam. It is my prayer that he is now in a place of eternal peace. May God bless his family now, and always.
