John P. Robinette

Service Details

John Robinette, 75, passed from this life on Saturday, October 12, 2013, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Realizing the uncertainty of this life, he put his trust in his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, His death on the cross for our sins, and His shed blood and atonement for our soul. John knew that by faith in His sacrifice on the cross we have eternal life.

John lived the first half of his life in Johnston where he and his wife Virginia raised their family. During this time, he worked at Camp Dodge as a member of the Iowa National Guard. In 1983, they moved to Albany, Georgia, where he worked as a Project Manager at the Marine Corps Logistics Base. After twenty-four years in Albany they returned to Des Moines in 2007 to be closer to family.

John was a jack-of-all-trades, and was happy to use his skills to help family, friends, and his church. He was happiest while spending time with those he loved.

John was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Wilma Robinette, and by his brother, Walter Robinette.

He will be missed by Virginia, his wife of nearly fifty-five years; daughters, Ginney (Larry) Camden, Laurie and Kelly Robinette; sister, Kate (Kenny, deceased) Farlow; brother, Fred (Jeri) Robinette; granddaughters, Christy Camden, Michelle Gilbert, and Brianna Denton; and great-grandchildren, Michael, Liam, and Shannon Carroll.

Services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue. There will be a visitation from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. John will be laid to rest in Lincoln Cemetery in Alleman, Iowa.
