Don R. Hilbert
October 08, 2013
Don R. Hilbert, 67, was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on February 23, 1946, the son of Harry and Margueritte Hilbert. He passed away October 8, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren.
Don attended Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls. He worked for John Deere for over 30 years and retired as Quality Auditor Supervisor. Don was a member of Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (OLIH) in Ankeny. In his free time he enjoyed casinos and spending hours on the computer.
Don is survived by his wife of 43 years, Teresa; sons, Christopher (Tracy) Hilbert and Rob (Angela) Hilbert; grandchildren, Madison, Owen, Samantha, and Emerson; sister, Karen Orvis; brother, William (Jean) Hilbert; sister-in-law, Marcia Hilbert; as well as many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rick Hilbert, brother-in-law, Charles Orvis, and his parents.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, October 12, 2013, at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, 510 E. 1st Street, Ankeny, Iowa. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
As many of you know, Don loved to wear jeans. It is our request that each of you wear attire that is comfortable to you whether that is jeans, khakis, dresses, or a suit.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to OLIH, Hope Ministries or Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines.

Teresa (and family),
I was very saddened to learn of your loss. While I haven't gotten a chance to know you very well at book club, I want you to know that you have my deepest sympathies. Having gone through the loss of three close family members in a little over a year, I have a great deal of empathy for what you are going through. My thoughts are with you and your family at this very sad time. Please take care of yourself and remember all the beautiful memories I'm sure you made together.

My wife and I want to extend our deepest sympathies to Don's family. I worked closely with him for 3 years at John Deere. I found my job assignment during this time to be very stressful. Don's encouragement and positive attitude helped me make it through that time period. I will always be grateful for his friendship.
