Beverly Jane “Bebs” (Knutson) Stoops, 87, passed away Friday, July 27, 2007 at Calvin Manor Retirement Community where she resided. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2007 in the Atrium at Calvin Community, 4210 Hickman Rd. Interment will be at the Kensett Cemetery in Kensett, Iowa
Beverly was born on October 2, 1919 in Manly Iowa to Orin and Mary Ann (Arendts) Knutson. She graduated from Kensett, Iowa High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa) for two years where she studied to be a teacher. Beverly taught school in Northern Iowa and then moved to Glenwood, Iowa where she taught at the State School. She subsequently moved to Des Moines where she worked for the Iowa State Commerce Commission and Equitable of Iowa. On June 17, 1964, Beverly was married to widower, Gerald “Jerry” Stoops and the family moved to San Bernardino, California. In San Bernardino, Beverly became office manager for an Income Tax Firm where she worked until her retirement in 2002. It was also in 2002 that Beverly and her husband Gerald moved back to Des Moines to live in Calvin Community. Beverly was an active member in various Lutheran churches throughout her life and was very active in Lutheran Church of Our Savior in San Bernardino. She was known as a helpful, caring person by her family and her many friends, and she had a great sense of humor, which was apparent to those who knew her.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald; her brother, Maurice A. Knutson of Des Moines; and her brother-in-law, George A. Olsen of Des Moines. She is survived by her children from Gerald’s previous marriage, Jon C. Stoops and Jan L. Stoops, both of Hutchins, Texas. She is also survived by a sister, Mary Ann Olsen of Des Moines; a brother, O. Irwin Knutson and his wife, Aida of San Antonio, Texas; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Knutson of Des Moines; and numerous nephews and nieces.
