Charles “Chuck” Jeffries, 78, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2013, at HCI Care Services on 56th Street.

Chuck was born October 26, 1934, in Panora, Iowa, to Paul and Gladys Jeffries. He worked in civil engineering for the Iowa Air National Guard for 36 years before his retirement in 1989, where he obtained the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Following his retirement, he went to work for Payless Cashways for 10 years, and was a SPAL (standardized performance assessment lab) for Des Moines University. Chuck was an avid reader, and he loved history, fishing, and traveling. He was a handyman and loved gadgets and tools. Chuck will be remembered by his family and friends as a true gentleman and keeping chivalry alive. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol Jeffries; children, Mark (Nadine) Jeffries, Patty (Brian) Neal, Paula (Jim) Cox, and Matt Jeffries; sister, Marva (Jim) Conrad; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

As his last selfless act, Chuck’s wishes were to donate his body to Des Moines University. A Visitation of Remembrance will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, October 13, 2013, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street.
