Hjordis M. Tundel, 96, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013, in Ankeny. She was born May 3, 1917, to Ingeborg Gustav and Alf Dalen in Norway.
Hjordis was a life time member of the Lutheran church and traveled around the U.S. representing different areas of the church. She was a great baker and loved to cook. Hjordis enjoyed family reunions and surrounded herself with a large group of friends.
Hjordis is survived by her children, Andrea MacDougall, Rev. Philip (Nancy), and Karen (Clark) Kramme, 15 grandchildren; and multiple great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward C. Tundel, and son, David E. Tundel.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, October 7, 2013, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.

My sympathies to my cousins and their families for the loss of their mother, my Aunt Hjordis. I have always had fond childhood memories visiting her when she and Uncle Edward lived in N.J.

Hjordis was my best friend. She always told me that she loved me. I saw her on Thursday afternoon and sang to her a little, but she was probably listening to carols in heaven! So I left quietly. When We returned on Saturday, she was gone from her room. It was sad because she was such a wonderful person to visit. I will always have good memories of Hjordis.
