Service Details
Delores M. Degner, 80, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2013. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 10 a.m. Family will greet friends the night before from 7 to 9 p.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
Delores was born on December 29, 1932 in New Hampton, IA to Bernard and Leona (Mielke) Meighan. She attended New Hampton High School and married Harold W. Degner on April 15, 1950. Delores was a wonderful mother who taught her children the lessons of life, love and giving. She was also a busy career woman working in the catering industry for the Savery Hotel, Greenfield Smith Catering, Fred Dowie Catering and the Des Moines Convention Center.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harold Degner; daughter, Deborah (Ron) Haugen; sons, Dennis (Sommat) Degner, and Daryl (Terri) Degner; grandchildren, Dylan, Ciara, Meagan, Knot and Kop Kongphet; great-grandchild, Kire; nieces, Carla Mikes of Fredericksburg, and Karen Ellsworth and family of New Hampton; and lifelong friend, Lois Eichenberger.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Ray Kruse; sister, Darlene Snyder; brother, Merle Meighan; and nephews, Roger and Les Snyder, Jr.

I knew you mom from working together at the Convention Center. I knew I could always go to her if I needed help and she was always there for me. She often spoke of her family and how proud of all of you she was. May, in time, the sense of loss lessen and fond memories prevail.
