Betty Jean Herman

Betty Herman, 83, was born February 7, 1930 in Alleman, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Lillian Morgan. She passed away September 27, 2013 at Mitchell Village Care Center in Mitchellville, Iowa.

Betty was a member of the last graduating class at White Oak High School. She worked for Des Moines Paint, Iltis Lumber and Des Moines Lumber.

Betty was a longtime member of Cory Grove Community Church and Rolling Agers Club in Bondurant. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and bird watching, but above all else, she cherished the time she spent with her family.

Betty is survived by her children, Roger Herman, Becky (Henry Lyons) Herman and Ron (Vicky) Herman; grandchildren, Stefanie Herman, Kristie Lyons, Traci Lyons, Nicole Herman, Jennifer Herman, Joe Herman and Cole Herman; sister, Clara Sparks; brothers-in-law, Martin Meyers and Fred Beal; sister-in-law, Karen Morgan, as well as many nieces, nephews and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; son, Robert Herman; brother, John Morgan; sisters, Irene (Carl) Lawrence, Doris Beal, Janet (Lloyd) Olson and Annabelle Meyers; and her step-brothers, Irvin (June) Aldrich, Cecil (Bernice) Aldrich, Glen (Helen) Aldrich and Harold (Gretchen) Aldrich.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Cory Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the funeral home.
