Service Details

Diana Warner, 86, passed away at home on September 26, 2013. Services will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. Visitation will follow the service. Private internment will take place at a later date.

Diana was born January 10, 1927 in Sioux City, and was the daughter of Charles Corbin Yancey, M.D. and Esther McClanahan Yancey, M.D. She graduated from Stephen D. Lee High School in Columbus, MS and attended Ward Belmont College in Nashville, TN before returning to Sioux City to attend Morningside College.

Diana married Darrel F. Warner on October 9, 1950 in Sioux City. She was an active volunteer within the community as a member of the Sioux City Junior League. She obtained her private pilot license in 1964 at a time when few women flew. This brought her years of pleasure, and she always had an eye to the sky.

Diana’s passions were her family and friends, travel, flower gardening and reading a good murder mystery on the back screened porch. Some of her greatest pleasures came from the many family dogs. She said they always wagged their tails and were happy to sit by her side.

Diana is survived by her children, Lisa Hoppenjans (Dan) of Jasper, IN, Susan Warner (David Nasternak) of West Des Moines, IA and David Warner (Joy) of Altoona, IA; grandchildren, Daniel Rayls (Carrie) of Noblesville, IN, Stephanie Byers, Westfield, IN, Whitney Warner and Grant Warner, Altoona.IA; great-grandchildren, Collin, Griffin and Erin Byers, and Samuel, Isaac and Anaiah Rayls; niece, Darby Rhodes (Roger), Highland Ranch, CO; nephews, Michael Coriden (Karen), Evergreen, CO and David Coriden (Trish) of LaCrosse, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel; and brother, David S. Yancey.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa or to the Dubois County Humane Society of Indiana. Online condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
