Service Details

Our mother, Nancy Robinson Hughes, died on September 21, 2013. She was 86. A memorial service will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. Family will greet friends one hour before and after the service.

Nancy was born on February 24, 1927. She was the only child of Ray and Wanda Robinson.

For 86 years she lived on the west side of Des Moines in 3 houses only 1 block apart. She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School. She spent several years working as a stenographer for the Department of Education. It was here that she met her husband and our father, Don Hughes. They were married in 1947. Don died in 1981.

Nancy loved nature, flowers, birds, animals, decorating her home with seasonal items, and watching football.

In 1979 she became an active member of AA where she made many friendships.
She is survived by us, her children: Dyanne Hughes Schulze and Carol Hughes of West Des Moines. Rodd Bullard, Dyanne’s partner, also survives.

We wish to thank all of her neighbors and friends who did so much for her. We will forever be grateful for their generosity, patience, and kindness. The many people who cared for her during her lengthy illness are also remembered in our thoughts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Animal Lifeline, the Animal Rescue League, or Powell Treatment Center.
