Verna Stevens, 91, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at Park Ridge Nursing Home in Pleasant Hill.
Verna was born July 8, 1922. She enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her yard. She was very outgoing and loved to have a good time. She liked crocheting and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Verna is survived by her children, Robert (Dorothy) Cornelison, John (Glennis) Cornelison, Nancy (Butch) Laxton, Richard (Robertha) Cornelison, Rodney (Regina) Stevens, and Deborah (Gary) Schoonover; 20 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Stevens, and daughter, Trudy Hunter.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.

Deb and Family, My sincerest sympathy goes out to you over the loss of your Mother! She had her times but for the most part was a very Loving, and fun Woman to be around. We have some great memories to remember with her! Love and HUGS! <3

Verna played a huge part in my childhood summers. Grandma June and I would spend hours at Verna's house: the ladies drinking coffee and playing cards while Debby and I played. She will always have a special place in my heart.

My Aunt Toots will be missed very much along with her sense of humor and her ability to have a good time. We wish we could be there. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Love to all of you!
