Service Details
George McGhee, 82, was born June 17, 1931 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, the son of George and Flora McGhee. He passed away September 18, 2013 at Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
George retired from military service after 40 years, serving in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army Reserves. He was also an active member of Altoona Regular Baptist Church.
George is survived by his wife, Phyllis; sons, David (Emma) McGhee, Richard (Yvonna) McGhee, Dean (Linda) McGhee and Daniel (Jane) McGhee; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Ken (Alice) McGhee and Tom (Sarah) McGhee.
Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2013, at Altoona Regular Baptist Church, 803 3rd Avenue SW in Altoona, with burial to follow at Altoona Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Altoona Regular Baptist Church in loving memory of George.

George was my supervisor at the Iowa State Fair Gate #5 for many years. I felt honored to be given his job when he retired. We shared many laughs and good chats about what the Lord was doing in our lives. I was blessed by each visit I made to see him at Bonderant. Oh what a wonderful time he is having in heaven with our Heavenly Father.

When I first came to Altoona Regular Baptist Church, it was the McGhees, among others, who made me feel so welcome. For over 40 years, George and Phyllis encouraged me, wanted to know how the ministry was going, asked about our boys and related with pride what was up with their four sons. Perhaps that is one of the reasons, I always felt an affinity towards them, b/c of our four boys. We sorrow with you, but with hope....1 Thess 4.
