Dorothy Myers

Dorothy Arlene Myers, 86, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at Taylor House Hospice, surrounded by her large and loving family. Dorothy was born April 15, 1927, in Mount Ayr, Iowa, to David and Bessie Zarr.

She was valedictorian of Tingley (Iowa) High School, Class of 1945, and played on the school’s successful six-on-six girls basketball team. In fact, Dorothy never met a sports event she didn’t like and throughout her lifetime, she was glued to the TV whenever a game was on. Dorothy worked as a nurses’ assistant at Blank Children’s Hospital for 28 years until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of Lutheran Church of the Cross in Altoona.

Dorothy is survived by her children: David (Sara) Myers of Des Moines; Linda (Mark) Lunde of Urbandale; Dixie (Ron) Wicker, Altoona; and Mary (Rick Christensen) Easton, Altoona; 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Carla Olson; her son, Ronald Myers, and all of her siblings.

Private burial services were held September 20 at Tingley Cemetery in Tingley, Iowa. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 28, 2:00 p.m., at Lutheran Church of the Cross, Altoona.
