Helen Elaine Tamasi

Helen Elaine Tamasi, 94, (four days short of her 95th birthday), passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2013. Services will be held on Friday, September 20, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery.

Helen was born on September 21, 1918 in Des Moines, IA to Albert and Minnie (Wilson) Summy. She was a lifelong resident of Des Moines and graduated from East High School. She married Albert Tamasi in 1938. The two raised their family on the southwest side and Helen was the ultimate caregiver to her family. She and Albert enjoyed golfing and dancing. After Albert’s death in 1983, Helen traveled and enjoyed her time at Prairie Meadows. She lived at the Park Fleur for 26 years, Walnut Ridge for two, and finally Kennybrook in Grimes. Helen was an avid Hawkeye and Atlanta Braves fan and attended all of her children and grandchildren’s activities.

She is survived by her daughter, Patty Brown; son, Bill (Mary) Tamasi; brother, Earl Summy; grandchildren, Beth Atkinson, Doug (Laura) Brown, Angie Tamasi, and Brad (Danielle) Tamasi; great-grandchildren, Berkeley and Addi Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and siblings.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Kennybrook Village and St. Jude Hospice for their wonderful care of Helen and the family.
