Violet Cox, 80, passed away at home on Sunday, September 8, 2013, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on November 7, 1932, to Glenn and Hazel Satterlee. She was married on August 4, 1950, to Wesley L. Cox.

Violet was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years but was also employed outside of the home as a seamstress for the Polk County Home and then Schmitt & Henry Manufacturing Company. In her retirement years, she owned and operated a second hand store, Bargin Buddies with her good friend, Cal Osborn. She was a strong, loving, caring, and giving woman. She donated many handmade quilts and pillows to various charities over her life time. In addition to sewing, she enjoyed growing flowers, watching birds, and her dog, Bells. She loved to dance, and her favorite country musician was Willie Nelson.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Timothy and Phillip, and great-grandson, Wesley. She is survived by her daughters, Heidi (Robert) Folkestad and Josettee (Thomas) Mills; granddaughter, Mia (Jonathan) Landeros; great-grandson, Christopher; sisters, Ann Rousseau and Binnie Haus; and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, on Thursday, September 12, 2013, followed by a graveside service at 1 p.m. at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to HCI Care Services of Central Iowa or the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Iowa Chapter.
