Michael Dean Squires

Michael Dean Squires, 67, passed away at his home Sunday, September 8, 2013.

Mike was born August 9, 1946 to Darlene Florence Rummel and Donald Dean Squires in Rhode Island. He attended Arlington Schools and graduated in 1964, the last graduating class of Arlington High School. Following graduation, Mike enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for four years. He then attended Iowa Falls Community College and graduated from UNI in Cedar Falls.

Mike began his teaching and coaching career in Titonka followed by Panora, Gladbrook and Carlisle, where he taught and coached until his retirement in 2003. He obtained his Master’s Degree in education from NWMSU and continued his naval career in the U.S. Navy Reserves. Most recently, he lived in Des Moines and worked for Principal Financial Group. Mike enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, fishing and watching football.

Mike is survived by his children, Clyde Squires of Norfolk, VA, Rachel (Troy) Foreman of Waverly, IA, Beau Squires and Anna Squires of Conrad, IA; four grandchildren; sister, Robin (Ben) Pattison of Maynard, IA; brother, Mark (Andrea) Squires of Superior, CO; several nephews; and his beloved dog, Molly. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Visitation of Remembrance will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
