Francis M. Nalevanko

“He never met a stranger.”

Francis Michael Nalevanko, 71, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2013.

Francis was born July 27, 1942 in Melrose, Iowa, to Thomas Francis and Margaret Irene Nalevanko. He retired from Consolidated Freightways after 31 years of service, and was a member of the Teamsters Union 147. After retirement, he delivered golf carts for Golf Cars of Iowa.

Francis made everyone feel like family and he loved spending time with his loved ones, especially his grandkids.

Francis is survived by his wife of 50 years, Maureen; children, Jon (Traci), Missy “Mim” and Mikki (Tom) Griffin; and grandchildren, Jonathan and Emily Nalevanko, Jenna and Payden Schoonover and Tyler and Nick Griffin. He is also survived by his siblings, Bess Thompson, Lorraine Carr, Jo Rogerson and Tommy (Becky) Nalevanko; in-laws, Dorothy Cowlen, Ellen (Tom) Conner and Linda (Larry) Klostermann; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Peg (John) Heinbaugh; nephew, Bobby Williams; and brothers-in-law, Bob Carr, Curt Thompson, Arnold “Snookie” Terrell and Danny Cowlen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, September 6, also at the funeral home.
