Jean Lyman, 63, passed peacefully surrounded by her family at Bright Kavanagh in Des Moines after a courageous three year battle with abdominal peritoneal cancer on Tuesday, September 3, 2013.
Jean was born October 21, 1949. She attended UNI for four years and earned her LPN License through DMACC. Jean enjoyed horticulture and gardening and was affectionately known as “Miss Fix It” because she was able to fix anything. She loved riding motorcycles and traveling to North Carolina and the Gulf region. Jean was also a history and geography buff and she loved animals.
Jean is survived by her partner, Margo Boon; sisters, Dottie Sessa, Rose Ann Waller and Mary K. Foley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Dorothy Lyman; brothers, Bernard Jr. and Charles; nephews, Dan and David; and her “kids”, Lucky, Puddy and Murrle.
A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League.

Condolences to Margo and to all the family from the Goeb family who lived across from Lyman's on Cherry St. I recently came across a picture of Jean about age 8, wearing a sailors cap, holding a fish she had caught in the Little Sioux
River. We were all proud of her!

My condolences go to Margo and family members. I only met Jean once, but she was a very sweet person. She will be missed.
