Rebecca Slootheer, 49, passed away September 2, 2013 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. She was born September 8, 1963 in St. Charles, Missouri, daughter of Russell and Sharon (Payne) Stagner.

Becky grew up in Missouri and moved to Iowa in the early 80s. She was a cosmetologist for numerous years, working for Formaro & Company and StyleWorks. Becky and her husband, Roy, owned and operated Coffee House Hollander in Altoona for 3 years, and she was most recently a stylist at Shear Gallery Salon in Pleasant Hill.

Becky was a beautiful human being who devoted her life to being a wife and mother. She always had a smile to share and was willing to help anyone in need, often times putting others before herself. She was very active in her community, helping the local fire department, volunteering at her children’s school, and was involved with the PTA – Junior Achievement. Becky enjoyed traveling, rug hooking and loved the ocean. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Becky is survived by her husband, Roy; sons, Mike, Connor and Dane Slootheer; mother, Sharon Townsend; sisters, Suzanne (Dewey) Cantrell, Jenny Lee, and Rachel (Steve) Ridgway; and her brother, Russell (Jody) Stagner. She was preceded in death by her father and grandma Freddie.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, September 6, 2013 and one hour prior to the service all at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1701 8th Street SW in Altoona. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Mercy Hospice in Johnston in loving memory of Rebecca.
