Jay M. Carstensen

Jay Michael Carstensen, 44 of Des Moines, IA (previously of Bellevue, NE) passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the Mercy Hospice House in Johnston, IA. Jay was a graduate of Bellevue East and the University of Nebraska – Omaha. He was the owner of Kapatiran Suntukan Martial Arts and a certified life coach. Jay had an infectious smile that easily lit up a room. He would always take time for friends who needed an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on.

Jay is survived by his wife, Tina (Gray) Carstensen; his son, Aidan Finn Carstensen of Des Moines; his parents, John and Marybeth Carstensen of Bellevue, NE; his sister, Karen and her family, Scott and Reese Peery; and his in-laws, the Gray family of Newton. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dr. C.F. Carstensen and Mary Carstensen of Waverly, IA, and John and Ruby Edelman of Springfield, OH.

Jay will be cremated and a private burial will be held at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly, IA. Jay wished for his family and friends to celebrate his life. There will be a private celebration held in September.

Jay requested memorial contributions be directed to the Arbor Day Foundation in his name.

As Jay would say, "Create a great day."
