Service Details
Maxine M. Hohlfeld, 89, passed away on August 25, 2013. Services will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Community of Christ Church, 4504 Ashworth Rd in West Des Moines, IA at 2:00 p.m. Burial of her cremated remains will be at a later date in Gering, Nebraska.
Maxine was born in Eastern, Nebraska to Raymond and Olive Burke. She graduated from Glendo High School in Wyoming and worked as a bookkeeper. She married Dean Mitchell when he returned from serving in World War II. They were blessed with 38 years of marriage until Dean’s death. Seven years after his passing she met and married Hank Hohlfeld. They had 17 wonderful years together. Maxine enjoyed a life full of family, friends, dancing, and church. Those fortunate enough to be in her life shared in her warmth and compassion.
She is survived by her son, Dale (Kathy) Mitchell; daughter, Becky (Arthur) Woodcock; grandchildren, Doug (Ryanne) Mitchell, Scott (Kyoko) Mitchell, David, Mark and Matthew Woodcock; and step-daughter, Jean (Larry) Piester. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and eleven siblings. As a mother, grandmother, friend, and soon to be great-grandmother, she will be greatly missed.

Dear Maxoh how the time flew by.you are missed dear friendeven though the miles separated us the past few years, our hearts were still linked together. We will see you again, laugh, & play cards & pretend not to see you cheat!!!

Becky and Family: I was so sorry to learn of your Mother's passing. My heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to all of you as you cope with this great loss. I know from experience the sorrow it brings as I lost Butch very suddenly and unexpectedly on April 28. Maxine was a very classy lady as well as a very efficient and devoted bookkeeper for Butch at Inter-City Lumber for all those years, and he valued all of her great qualities and especially her friendship. May your many fond memories sustain you now and in all the days to come. God's blessings to all of you.
