Service Details

Amy Lynn Hollebrands, 54, passed away on August 22, 2013. A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. with visitation prior from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.

Amy was born on November 3, 1958 in Des Moines, IA to Phyllis and Carroll “Holly” Hollebrands. The third of four children, she graduated from Ruby Van Meter School. Amy was proud of her many Special Olympics ribbons for swimming, her bowling trophies and square dancing performances when she was younger. She even learned sign language – at least signs for important things like, bacon, popcorn and happy birthday!

Amy lived in supervised housing provided by Link Associates and Mosaic where she had many friends and devoted caregivers. She enjoyed work, church and other activities.

Amy was the most happy-go-lucky member of the family and was the life of the party. She liked to dance, tickle, give hugs that hurt, collect stuffed animals, eat Carol’s chocolate pie, have her hair curled, and watch the Hawkeyes, The Wizard of “Ahh”, and wrestling for the “cute guys”!

Amy was very caring and independent, insisting on doing things for herself for as long as she could.

Amy’s spirit will live in the hearts of her family and the many who loved her. She was predeceased by her dad, Holly; and is survived by her mom, Phyllis Hollebrands; brothers, Curt (Carol Grandanette) and Matt (Karen) Hollebrands of Savage, MN; and sister, Kris Wymer of Arcata, CA; nephew, Nick Hollebrands; and niece, Lindsay Hollebrands of Savage, MN.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa Special Olympics or Alzheimer’s Association Greater Iowa Chapter. Online condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
