James J. Rock

Jim Rock, son of Ned C. and Jennie Pearl was the eighth of ten children, born in Des Moines, Iowa, July 16, 1932. He died peacefully with his children, his granddaughter, and his great grandson at his side. He was a retired truck driver, for the city of Des Moines Forestry department. He loved food, fishing, camping and all sports. He was an avid Hawkeye fan. At the time of his death he was living in the Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Jim served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He is survived by a sister Margaret A. Rock Swim (Ed); four children, Toni K. Rock Garreton, Jim Rock Jr. (Suzanne), Donna Rock Wenzl, and Deborah Rock Schroeder (Kurt); seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred, his parents, eight siblings, and his grandson Tomas Garreton.

Funeral Services will be held, 1 p.m., Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
