Richard A. Phipps

Richard “Richie” Artie Phipps, 48, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Richie was born July 19, 1965, in Des Moines, to Richard and Sharon Phipps. He was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. Richie was an animal lover and especially liked cats, dogs, and guinea pigs. He enjoyed running and always liked to look good. Richie had a fun-loving nature, and you could always tell when he was up to something because he got a glint in his eye and had a big, devilish grin.

Richie was the youngest of five siblings. He is survived by his mother, Sharon; brothers and sister, Frank Sly, Tammy Thomas (Scott), Tim Sly, and Mike Phipps (Lika); two nieces; five nephews; and 14 grand-nieces and -nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard; maternal grandparents, Art and Mildred Gilbert; paternal grandparents, Nellie and Milton Phipps; aunts, Patty, Joyce, and Barb; and grand-nephew, Gavin Sly.

Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, August 24, 2013, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 3820 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, followed by burial at Avon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, August 23, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
