Norma Margaret Stewart, 90, passed away Monday, August 19, 2013, at Bright Kavanagh in Des Moines.
Norma was born July 10, 1923, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Henry and Addie Collins. She was a very caring and, at times, very stubborn person. She enjoyed crafts and flowers. Norma was a great cook and will be remembered for her goulash and meatloaf. If you stopped by to visit her, she always had a hot pot of coffee ready.
Norma is survived by her children, Roger Freel (Carla), Steven Stewart, Joe Stewart (Ruth), and Linda Kirkman (Ray); 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James G. Stewart; two sons; and three daughters.
There will be a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2013 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines followed immediately by a graveside service at Glendale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Norma.

The first time I met you I knew & could feel how much you truly loved and cared for each and every individual in your family. Please keep an eye out for Bobby. He is going to need you to watch over him as I'm sure he is taking this very hard.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. It seems so unfair that death would have the power to take away someone you love. And when it happens, the thought of never being able to talk to, laugh with, or hold your loved one can be most difficult to bear. The pain is not necessarily erased by being told that your loved one is up in heaven, as if God doesn't care about our pain. Only Gods (Psalms 83:18) Kingdom can bring peace, happiness, perfect health, and everlasting life -Matthew 6:9, 10 . Dear Grandma, I miss you so much. Words cant express how I feel inside now that you are gone, Im so confused and lost at the same time. Im not sure on how to deal with the fact you are not just a phone call away anymore. You were always there for me to talk to whenever I needed you. I love you so much and I know that you are with Grandpa and Bev. I know that you are in a better place now and whrn my time comes you will be there with arms open to greet me at heavens gates. I live you and will see you again.

My Great Aunt Norma was like a Grandmother to me. She is missed and loved dearly. Years ago, when I was in the Army, she hadn't heard from me in awhile and Desert Shield/Storm was going on. I was called into my 1SG office bcuz she called Red Cross. I never let too much time go by between calls or visits again. Rest in peace my dear Aunt. I will see you again.
