Veltia M. Pullen

Veltia Marie Pullen, 91, passed away Monday, August 19, 2013, at Valley View Village in Des Moines.

Veltia was born January 19, 1922, in Decatur County, Iowa, to Simeon and Maude (Williams) Fitch. She was married to Vernon Pullen, who preceded her in death in 1992. She was a member of Staves United Methodist Church and enjoyed going to the Norwoodville Community Center. Veltia collected salt and pepper shakers. She was a gardener and enjoyed tending to her flower beds and canning. Veltia was mainly a housewife, but in her later years worked for Grandview College and Holiday Inn prior to her retirement in 1984.

Veltia is survived by her son, Gary Pullen (Sandy); grandsons, Chris Pullen and Jason Pullen (Stephanie); great-granddaughter, Kairi Anne Pullen; step-great-grandson, A.J. Soman; brothers, Leo Fitch (Ruth) and Gail Fitch; and many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

In addition to her husband, Vernon, she was preceded in death by her parents, great-grandson, Jacob Pullen, and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 22, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.
