William Robert Kersey, Jr., 73, passed away after a battle with ALS on Sunday, August 18, 2013, at UnityPoint Hospice Taylor House.
Bill was born August 1, 1940, in Knoxville, Iowa, to William Kersey, Sr., and Gladys Jones. He served in the United States Navy and was proud to work for Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Plant Operations, which he did until his ALS diagnosis three months ago prevented him from continuing.
Bill is survived by his mother, Gladys Jones; children, Allen Kersey, Lisa Kersey-Wagner and husband Robert, and William R. Kersey III; grandchildren, Ashlee, Tyler, Zoie, Bonnie, Robbie, Will, Aaron, Dayln, and Gabriella; and siblings, Patricia, Sara “Cookie,” Chuck, Jackie, and Morris.
He was preceded in death by his father, wife, Bonnie J. Kersey, and four siblings.
According to his wishes, Bill’s body has been cremated. A memorial celebration will be held from 3 to 6 p.m., Saturday, August 24, 2013, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 3820 SW 9th Street, Des Moines.

Lisa, I am sorry for this loss. I know how important he was to you. I cannot believe that we are having to bury our parents at our age. I have been there done that with my mom. Let me know if there is anything you need, or if you just want to talk. Love you.

We are saddened by the news of Bills passing, and our thoughts and prayer go out to his friends and family. He was a good man and a good friend and co-worker. He will surely be missed and remembered for his laugh and quirky smile. God bless and God speed Bill.

I knew Bill from many overnight issues in the laboratory at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. He was very much our "go to" guy in Plant Ops. His smile and assistance was always appreciated. Please accept my thoughts of sympathy and support to your family as you begin your journey without him.
