Joan Deierling

Joan Deierling, 66, passed away August 16, 2013, in Ankeny, IA. She was born in Des Moines, on June 1, 1947, to Mildred and Thomas Day.

Joan enjoyed crafts, sewing, needlepoint, and crocheting. Joan accepted Christ as her Savior in 1977. She was a wonderful, caring person who enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a history buff who traced her roots back to Roman Times. She worked as a Home Health Aide for Generations Inc. for 13 years. She was also a member of Grace Church in Des Moines.

Joan is survived by husband of 42 years Sam; children, Julie, Tina (Will) Brightman; Michael and Tom (Dawn) and Rachel. Grandchildren, Samantha, Alex, Matthew, Megan, Elizabeth, Hannah, and Hayden. Beloved best friends Mickey and Chyna, her dogs.

Joan loved to teach others about life; by extending her teachings she has donated her body to the University of Iowa. No services are planned at this time. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Penni and Mary Beth at Unity Point Hospice.
