Service Details
Jan Hines, 62, passed away August 15, 2013, at UnityPoint Health Des Moines Methodist. She was born March 29, 1951, in Des Moines, to William and Hazel Hines.
Jan was a teacher for 30 years before retiring in 2007. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be remembered for her strength and continuous smile.
Jan is survived by her daughter, Johannah (Drew) Cole; grandchildren, Talan, Anna, and Kenedy; parents, Bill and Hazel Hines; brothers, Dennis (Joyce) and Randy (Gale) Hines; long-time friend, Soni Nelson; as well as many extended relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at Saylorville Church, 6429 NW 6th Drive, with a luncheon to follow. Burial will take place at Mitchellville Cemetery following the luncheon. The family will greet visitors one hour prior to service time at the church.

As a college roommate of Jan's, I have many delightful memories of those days so long ago. I know she will be deeply missed by her family and friends. My prayers for comfort are being made on your behalf.

So sorry to hear about Jan. We know now her pain is Gone. I didn't know her well, but know she Was a Good person. God bless your FAMILY During This time.

I'm so sorry to hear that Jan has left here, but she is blessed to be in Heaven with no more pain and suffering. I wonder if she will happen on to my brother, Dan, who just entered Heaven on May 20. We sure miss them here. I'm praying for Jan's family at this difficult time.

I was a first year teacher right out of college, and didn't know many people at all. Jan invited me over to their house for dinner and to play cards. That was the beginning of a 31 year friendship that lasted over time and many miles. We could pick up the phone and talk like we just were together yesterday- Jan was like a dear sister who understood so much. I wanted to give my kidney to her, but couldn't, I wanted to take away her pain, but couldn't. God did . I will miss her greatly but Heaven is so much greater now. I'm praying for you all and so wish I could be there with you during this time. Please know that Jan was loved and I love you all very much!

In memory of my cousin and friend, Jan: I will miss her so much, our haircut and perm visits and our little "talks". It was always a welcoming visit, catching up on family and seeing her grandchildren right by her side. They loved their "Nana" dearly. You will always be close to my heart. Love to all the families and friends she had! God bless.
