James H. Marienau, 70, passed away from cancer on Monday, August 12, 2013, peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
A gathering of family and friends in memory of James will be held at the Boline-Manfredi VFW Post 9662 in Ankeny on Saturday, August 17, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., and at the Westfield Congregational Church in Westfield, Iowa, on Saturday, August 24, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
James is survived by his wife, Carolyn (nee Ross) Marienau; brother, Larry (Suzy) Morehead; daughters, Melanie (Jay Armstrong) Mortimer and Tamara (Mark) Adams; his grandchildren, Chantel Mortimer, Emily Strom, Luke Adams, and Jacob Adams; as well as extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HCI Care Services (Hospice of Central Iowa) in loving memory of James.

I'm late on this grievous news and deeply saddened by it. I knew Jim through JayCees and through his kidlets whom I taught at AHS. I never met a kinder, more gracious gentleman in my days. My deepest regrets and sympathies extend to Jim's family and the legions of those who loved this fine man. I'll pray him up tonight, but I contend he's already there in the house of many rooms. God's peace.

So sorry to read of Jim's passing in the paper today. I had the pleasure of working with Jim for many years at the telephone company. I have many memories of Jim and Don Seiler on 6th floor. He knew his job, did it so well and loved life. Talked about Carolyn and his daughters often. He taught me a lot and also played a mean game of cribbage. He always left a situation better than it started. May your grief be overshadowed with your treasured memories and may you greet each new day assured by God's promises.

It's tough to get through this combative and contentious world without making a few enemies.....but my pal, Jim, did just that. I never knew him to dislike anybody nor anybody to dislike him. That is my observation and reflection on a life well lived.This is to the memory of a very good man, a wonderful husband and father and a great friend. Rest peacefully, partner. Mike

So sorrry to hear of my cousin Jim's passing. My favorite memories of Jim are my dad (Uncle Ed) and him playing country music together, They can both be playing music together in Heaven. My thoughts and prayers go out to Carolyn, Tammy & Family, & Melanie &Family. Also his brother Larry (my Cousin)

I worked with Jim during our careers at the telephone company several years ago. He was such a pleasure to work with; what a great guy! The world has truly lost a wonderful person! My thoughts and prayers go out to the family; it has to be comforting to have many beautiful memories of Jim.

I worked with Jim for several years and I always appreciated his smile, humor and compassion.
It's nice to think of someone and have a smile come to your face and heart. May you all have that same experience when you think of Jim.

Dear Carolyn, Tammy & Family, & Melanie & Family,
You have our sincere sympathy in the passing of your loved one, Jim! We are so sorry.... Please know that our thoughts & Prayers are with You. Jim was a good friend thru the years.. We were classmates at Miller Country school many years ago, so there are lots of good memories.. Always enjoyed Jim's musical abilities & even had the chance to sing with him a couple of times.. Jim was always a good, kind friend.. Please take care & know that we will keep Jim's memory alive in our hearts!
