Lela Quinlan, 101, passed away August 11, 2013, at Mill-Pond Community in Ankeny, Iowa. She was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota, on March 13, 1912, to John and Minnie (Klein) Wetzel.

Lela was a member of Ankeny First United Methodist Church. She was a poet, painter, woodcarver, tailor, and homemaker.

Lela is survived by her son, T. David Quinlan of Bourbonnais, Illinois; daughter, Cathie (David) Young of Ankeny; seven grandchildren, Patrick (Bridgett), Suzanne (Will), Michael, Patrick, David (Bonnie), Christopher (Kori), and Scott (Shelly); nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; daughter-in-law, Lynn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; granddaughters, Linda and Mary Catherine; son, Theodore; daughter-in-law, Marita.

Memorial services will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 17, 2013, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue. Burial of cremated remains to be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.
