Lorraine Wittkowski

Lorraine Welshhons Wittkowski, age 85, died peacefully on August 9, 2013, at Westview of Indianola. Lorraine was born December 28, 1927, in Beech, Iowa, where she spent her childhood on the local family farm.

In 1955 Lorraine married William Wittkowski of Des Moines, in Chicago IL. The couple resided in metropolitan Detroit until their retirement in 1984, where she was a wife, and mother to her children, as well as a second mother to many. Retirement brought Lorraine and Bill back to Iowa where they built a home in rural Hartford. Gardening, her cats, and family kept Lorraine busy during retirement.

Lorraine loved the many family get-togethers that include her children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. She loved cooking and baking, and her family will miss her famous apple pies and trays of Christmas cookies.

She was the proud mother of Douglas (Martha) of Pleasantville and Kim Bermudez (Mike) of Chicago, and proud grandmother of Susan Bermudez of Council Bluffs and William Bermudez of Chicago. Also surviving are her brothers and sisters, Max (Yvonne) Welshhons of Ankeny, IA, Stanley Welshhons of Pleasantville, Lucille Sindric of Indianola, IA, Norma Rippee of Lebanon, MO, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband William “Bill,” brothers, Dean, Harley, Clarence, Vance, Harold, and Ivan, and her sisters Mary, Hazel, and Wilma.

Lorraine requested no funeral service and a private family burial will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff of Windsor Manor and Westview of Indianola for the excellent care they provided to Lorraine.
