Benjamin Carlson Scharnberg

Benjamin Carlson Scharnberg, 24, died Friday, July 20, 2007. Memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2007 at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, 4126 Ingersoll Ave. in Des Moines. Visitation will be held 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, July 22 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.
Benjamin was born October 12, 1982 to Denise and Steve Scharnberg. Following graduation from Roosevelt High School, he attended the University of Iowa where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He finished his schooling at San Diego Golf Academy in Scottsdale, Arizona. He loved Iowa Hawkeye Football, and his passion was golf. He won many junior golf tournaments around the state.
Ben is survived by his parents, Denise and Steve Scharnberg of West Des Moines; his sister Nora Scharnberg of Scottsdale, AZ; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Scharnberg of Spencer, IA; his aunts and uncles, Gary (Sheila) Scharnberg and Jill Foss of Everly, IA, Jan (Joel) Carl of Mt. Vernon, IA, Chuck (Amy) Scharnberg of Phoenix, AZ, Debbie (Bob) Cramblit of Kansas City, MO, Marge Lewis of Ottumwa, IA; and numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Carlson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Ben Scharnberg Memorial Fund, c/o First Tee of Greater Des Moines (an inner city youth golf program), 8515 Douglas Ave., Des Moines, Iowa 50322; phone - 331-3606.
Ben was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all his family and his many friends.
