Service Details

Boyd L. Bailey, born on December 29, 1951, to Norma L. Hainline and Chet Wayne Bailey, died peacefully August 6, 2013, under the shade of an apple tree at his residence in Mitchellville, Iowa. Boyd grew up in Mitchellville, Iowa, and attended Bondurant-Farrar High School, where he was adventurous, athletic and charismatic. In 1970, his graduation year, Boyd was involved in a wrestling accident which left him as a quadriplegic, just months before graduating. Although Boyd was restricted to a chair, he was very self-sufficient and lived his life to the fullest, helping others when he could and always finding a new adventure to take on.

In 1972, Boyd moved to Moore, Idaho, with his mother, and shortly after opened up his own gift shop. This was a place friends and family came to spend time with him, hang out and make memories that have lasted a lifetime. After the death of his mother in 2000, Boyd soon returned to Mitchellville, Iowa, where he loved spending time with nieces and nephews, spoiling them with candy and goodies. If you were to pull up to the farm on any given day, you may have found him under the shade, in the sun, enjoying the breeze or even cooking up a batch of walnut chocolate chip cookies. Boyd enjoyed spending time with his Ankeny Seventh-Day Adventist church family, attending regularly and participating in social events and activities.

Boyd is survived by his sister and her spouse, Vickie and Lonnie Harmon, and his brother and his spouse, Shane and Alesha Bailey and their daughter, Shayna; nieces and nephews and their families: Brandy and her five children, Dalton, Lexi, Charley, Braeh, and Kyra; Kim and Gabe and their three children, Nash, Kolbie, and Jagger; Justin and Jessi and their son, Bodey; and Travis and Stephanie and their three children, Shelby, Cooper, and Trigg.

A memorial service will be held at the Ankeny Seventh-Day Adventist Church located at 409 SW Maple Street, Ankeny, Iowa, at 10 am, on Monday, August 12, 2013. Donations and arrangements can be sent to Ankeny Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
