Elizabeth R. "Liz" Sample

Mrs. Elizabeth R. “Liz” Sample, 79, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Elizabeth was born March 23, 1934, in Murphy, NC, to Kenneth and Sadie (Rodgers) Taylor. She married Bill Sample on December 4, 1953. She proudly served her country in the Women’s Army Corps. Elizabeth worked as chief bailiff for Polk County in addition to owner/operator of two bars.

Elizabeth is survived by her children, Sandi (Bob) Stradley, Bill Sample, Bob (Linda) Sample, and Joe Sample; grandchildren, B.J. and Bobbie Stradley, Elizabeth and Bobby Sample, and Kailie Morrow; three great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, John (Jean) Sample; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Bill; parents; and sister, Mary Agnes Taylor.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., on Sunday, August 4, 2013, with funeral services following immediately at 2 p.m. Elizabeth’s body has been cremated and she and her husband, Bill, will be interred together at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Elizabeth.
