Az’urai Palmer, 16, passed away Monday, July 29, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center.

Az’urai was born October 19, 1996, in Des Moines. She excelled academically and recently attended the NYLC (National Youth Leadership Conference). Az’urai enjoyed reading, writing, drawing, singing, playing the guitar, cooking, watching movies, making people laugh, and poetry. She was often described as a hipster. Az’urai was too eccentric to be put under any label. Az’urai was just Az’urai.

In death as in life, Az’urai will continue to touch the lives of others as she had previously made the decision to be an organ and tissue donor.

Az’urai is survived by her mother, Kristina (Benito) Quinonez; father, Richard Palmer, Sr.; siblings, Jasmine Palmer and Richard Palmer, Jr.; grandparents, Vickie (Bob) Horsch, Corliss “Nanny” DeVan, and Ed (Katy) Polich; great-grandmother, Deloise Veith; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2013, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
