Service Details

Roy L. Pollock, 84, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Kavanagh House. A memorial visitation will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines on Thursday, August 1, 2013 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30.

Roy was born on March 1, 1929 in Humeston, IA to Jessie (Crawford) and Bruce Pollock. He was a Navy WWII and Korean War Veteran; and then worked for the US Postal Service for 30+ years as a letter carrier. He also held several part-time jobs over the years. After retirement, Roy worked at Golferama and as he loved golf, this particular job was quite enjoyable. He delivered golf carts all over the Midwest and occasionally had the luck to play in tournaments some even with celebrities. Roy was a handyman, master builder to family, and neighbors alike. He loved family and friends and was a good husband to his wife for 66 years. He especially loved his grandkids and great-grandkids as well as his little dog, Bubba.

Roy is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Kathy Sergio; sons, Randy (Julienne) and Michael (Rhonda); grandchildren, Anthony (Oi) Sergio, Leanne Sergio, Megan (David) Daughenbaugh, Zac (Kate) Pollock, Ryan (Shazasha) Pollock, Jake Pollock, and Jason Pollock; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Max and Rex; and sister, Marie Adams.
