Floren Gillispie

Floren Ralph Gillispie passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, with his family by his side. Floren was born on September 11, 1930, in Laplatta, MO, to Roma (Followwill) and Floyd Gillispie.

Floren served proudly in the U.S. AirForce. He married Mary Jean Dooley in 1956, and together they raised three children. He retired in 1995 after many years of dedicated service in the maintenance department for the Meredith Corporation. Floren enjoyed country music, playing his guitar, woodworking, and he especially loved spending time with his family. He will be missed.

Floren is survived by his children, Debra (Richard) Edwards, Cheryll (Daniel) Greiner, and Kevin (Haven) Gillispie; sisters, Helen (Amos) McHenry, Vera (James) Schoonover, and Carol (James) Perkins; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary; son, Kenneth; and his brother, Dallas Gillispie.

Family will greet friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 3, 2013, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Floren will be laid to rest along his wife at Unionville Cemetery in Missouri at a later date.
