Service Details
Maudeene Elizabeth Swinehart, 92, passed away on July 14, 2013. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines on Friday, July 19, 2013 at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Maudeene was born on October 21, 1920 to Leona (Saltzman) and William H. Been in WaKeeney, KS. She graduated from Tingley High School and married Charles “Bud” Swinehart on April 6, 1943. Longtime residents of Des Moines, they had 65 wonderful years together. Maudeene worked as a mail clerk for the State of Iowa until retirement. She also enjoyed cooking, dancing, crocheting, crafting and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son, Dan (Jane) Swinehart; daughter, Nancy Swinehart; grandchildren, Janel Ketelsen and Andrew (Nikki) Swinehart; great-grandchildren, Darian and Jordian Swinehart, and Karlie Ketelsen; and her brother, Milo Been. Maudeene was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Bud” Swinehart; her parents; brothers, Marvin, Mac, Mark and Merle Been; sisters, Margaret Dutton, Marrabell Schulz, Marilyn Tindle, and Mardell Donner.

Dear Maudie's Family,
Our Mom Nora was your Mom's roommate for the past year. We all thought the world of Maudie. She was always looking out for our Mom, so kind and dear! Thank you too for sharing the beautiful flowers with Mom, she has the vase on her dresser and she was so proud to show them to us this past weekend. Mom misses your Mom and so do we. God Bless you,

I am so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. She was a great lady and I enjoyed visiting with her. My last visit was on the day she passed away to be with her Lord and Savior. I took her communion from my church. She was not able to have the loaf, but she did have the juice and was so grateful I came and brought communion. I hope it is a comfort to you to know this. May God comfort you at this sad time.

So sorry to hear of Maudeen's passing. I always enjoyed visiting with her at Bishop Drumm. She was a kind, caring person, and looked out for Mary when they were roommates. Rest in peace, Maudeen.

Mom and the Van Verth family were blessed to have Maudie as Mom's roommate. She was very thoughtful and caring to Mom. Maudie always greeted us with a big smile and was interested in everyone. We enjoyed our time with her and we will miss her. God Bless.

I met Maudie recently while visiting my Mother who was Maudie's roommate at Bishop Drumm. She was incredibly gracious, sweet, and smart. She told me about her family and her life growing up. She was a wonderful and precious lady. Sincere condolences to family and friends.
