Sandra Fischer

Sandy Kay Fischer, 61, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center.

Sandy was born April 30, 1952, in Des Moines, to Harold and Vernice Kooker. She lived her entire life in the Des Moines area. She shared her life with two husbands; the first marriage was to Dave Fischer, the second was a common-law marriage to Bill McManus. Sandy was employed as a pediatric nurse at Mercy Hospital for 15 years. Sandy loved being outdoors and her time spent up north in Minnesota. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and being on the lake. She liked working with ceramics. Prior to her death, she was under the wonderful care of Aide Carrie and Nurse Gina.

Services will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., with a memorial service following at 6:30 p.m.

Sandy is survived by her daughter, Carmen Fischer (Eric Morck); son, Ryan Fischer (Laura); granddaughters, Gloria, Madelyn and Kinley Fischer; brothers, Ed Kooker and Dave Kooker (Bev); and sister, Leona Kirkpatrick.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Vernice Kooker; father, Ivan Kooker; and husband, Bill McManus.
