Arlie Eugene McAdoo, 77, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
Arlie was born June 1, 1936 in Benton, Illinois to Eugene and Madge McAdoo. He retired from Mid American Energy after 40 years of service. Arlie was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Des Moines.
Arlie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris; daughters, Sharon (Gordon) Gratias, Karon (Rick) Brown, Jeri Thompson and Michelle (Chad) Welch; brother, Keith McAdoo; grandchildren, Andrea and Ali Diaz, Ben and Blair Brown, Lauren (Bryan) Baker, Kristen and Travis Thompson, Bridgette, Mitch and Emma Williams, McKenzie, Sanibel and Clayton Welch; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Jay Thompson.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2013 at Hamilton’s Southtown, 5400 SW 9th St. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, 24 S. Walnut in Colfax followed by burial at Griffis Cemetery in Prairie City.

We are very sorry to hear of Arlie's passing. We have many good memories of being in "Small Group" with him and Doris. We also enjoyed when he lead our Sunday School Class. Arlie will be greatly missed, but we know that he is rejoicing with Jesus. May God comfort all of you at this time. Peace be with you.

God has taken Arlie into his loving arms to give him rest and to allow him to have his questions to be answered.

We are sorry to hear of Arlie's passing. I have great memories from Alligator boots, hearing adventures about the dog trials, butchering a cow and teaching a horse how to park. Arlie took our family to a fun place not only to fish but to catch them as well by the boxcars then made time to build a tree house in our back yard. Today our kids, 44, 41 and 35 still refer to Arlie as Mr McAdoo. As for work, if that was what it was called back then, while I was driving the small metershop van on SE 5th, during a thunderstorm, before it was paved south of McKinley, Arlie said "you know Larry if we get into a wreck we're going to be the first ones there" as he braced his feet against the dashboard. When we were testing meters south of Grand, by Terrace Hill, Arlie said I was easily impressed as I "oohed and aahed" at the other mansions in the area. Oh yeah, to end the day playing a game of pinochle before we went home.
Personally to be greeted with "Hi Slick" is only outdone by knowing his faith has now been realized.

Doris and Girls:
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I remember Arlie driving his baby girl Michelle to her Coca-Cola Sampling job for us. He was very special to his 4 daughters.

So sorry to hear of Arlie's passing. He was a good man. Also sorry I won't be able to be at the funeral or visitation as I will be out of town for work. I pray you will find peace and comfort in the knowledge that Arlie is resting in the arms of his savior Jesus Christ.
