Mildred Cook

Mildred Cook, 94, passed away at home Sunday, July 7, 2013, the last of 11 children.

Mildred was born July 4, 1919, in Appanoose County, Iowa, to Henry and Martha Jane Fenton. She had lived in the Des Moines area most of her adult life, and at her current residence for over 50 years. Mildred retired in 1982 from Beatrice Foods where she had worked in the production department for over 30 years. She had been a member of Airport Baptist Church where she served faithfully in the nursery for 17 years, and was currently a member of Willow Creek Baptist Church. Mildred enjoyed traveling with her husband Gordon and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mildred is survived by her husband of 63 years, Gordon Cook; children, Lanny (Deb) Cook-Caligiuri, Sherry (Paul) Adair, Jane (Russ) Brown, Paula Boyum, and Mike Cook; grandchildren, Tracy, Paul, Melissa, Natalie, Jennifer, Emily, Anne, Lori, and Chris; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and seven brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 12, 2013, at Willow Creek Baptist Church, 720 Army Post Road in West Des Moines, followed by burial at 12:30 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
