Marjorie Thomas

Marjorie Maxine Thomas passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Mercy Hospice, Johnston, Iowa. Marge was born on August 20, 1928, to Eloise (Nine) and George Shelton in Lucas County, Iowa.

Marge is survived by her sons, William Alan (Judy) Zimmerman and Stephen Lee (Kris) Zimmerman; her daughter, Kathy Jo (Gerry) Leete; her grandsons, Rodney (Cathy) Zimmerman, Kurtis Zimmerman, Gerry Jr Leete, and Billy (Janne) Leete; and her great grandchildren Halee Leete, and Tyler and Brady Paxton.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents, husband William Walter Thomas, brother Lyle Shelton, sister Delores Wiley, son Terry Ray Zimmerman, and grandson Mickey Zimmerman.

Some of Marge’s fondest memories were: meeting her best friend, Auntie Jo Scott, meeting her husband, Bill dancing at Haps Corral, a trip down south with her husband Bill and sister-in-law Betty and brother-in-law Babe; her train trip to California with her sister-in-law Dorothy; trips wintering in Texas; a trip to Alaska with her friend Andy; and a trip to Hawaii with Dorothy, thanks to Andy’s son and daughters. Marge was eternally happy and always ready to go shopping, to garage sales, or visiting.

Family was Marge’s main focus, with Sunday dinners, Birthdays and Holidays being the high points in her life. Marge loved to travel and had visited all 50 states. Country western was her favorite kind of music, and she was always tickled pink when she won at the casinos. Marge loved receiving Valentine’s candy from her grandson, Gerry.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m.on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Odd Fellows, IOOF Cemetery in Indianola.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in Marge’s name.
