Kathleen Spees, 83, of Waterloo, passed away Saturday, July 6, at Covenant Hospital in Waterloo.
She was born August 4, 1929, in Des Moines, daughter of Jay and Mildred (Sallman) Gibbs. She married Kenneth “Curly” Spees in 1950 in Des Moines.
Kathleen graduated from Cambria High School in 1947. She went on to become a nurse, and eventually retired from Covenant Hospital after over 35 years of service.
She is survived by her five siblings, Karolyn Hatch, Keo (Lee) Holmes, Karmen Diehl, Karen Cochran, and Keith Gibbs; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends who were truly an extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth “Curly”; her parents; and her brother, Kenneth Gibbs.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

My dad, Don, may have been Kathy's brother in law. He had a brother name Kinny Unfortunately I only met Kinny and Cathy two times in my young part of my life. They were both very nice to us. My sincere condolences, my dad passed away in 2006 and and I know how hard it is to lose a loved one. Prayers for the Lord to comfort you all!

I worked with Kathy at Schoitz. She was such a hard worker, I knew my patients were well cared for when I was working with Kathy. She was always kind and caring. Even when I saw her in later years, she was just as sweet and caring. My sympathy to her family.

I first met Kathy at Schoitz when we worked 3-11. She would collect leftover food from patient trays to feed to dogs who had little or none. She was so caring. I loved seeing her and she was one of my favorites. I am hoping she is playing with all her pets and animals she helped!
