Geraldine Francis Gilbert, 74, passed away Thursday July 4, 2013 at Altoona Nursing Home. Jerie was born July 12, 1938 in Cantril, IA to James and Elizabeth Engle. She grew up in Bondurant and lived in Altoona and Des Moines.
Jerie worked at Look magazine and retired from Leslie Paper in 1999. She was a member of Grandview Park Baptist Church for 47 years and enjoyed working in the office and library as well as Shepherds, Awanas and Sunday school.
Jerie was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Donna Engle and brother, James Engle.
Jerie is survived by her sisters, Joann VanBuskirk of Hedrick and Gertrude Phillips of Oskaloosa; sister-in-law, Joanne Engle of Waukee; children, Sherry Brown of Mitchellville, Alan (Barbara) Brown of Forest Hill, TX, Gary (Shellie) Brown of Des Moines, and Karl Gilbert of Des Moines; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; many nieces and nephews; and a host of beloved friends.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013 at Grandview Park Baptist Church, 1701 E. 33rd Street, with burial at Bondurant Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street, Altoona.

My prayer goes out to the Gilbert family, I would like to express my condolence at this time to your family. The Bible is a great source of encouragement at times like this, a comforting thought is at Revelation 21:4 "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. I will miss Geraldine I loved taking care of her, it will not be the same without her. My thoughts and prayers are with you. This is part of a song I heard on my way home from work and I cried my eye's out. So lay me down in that open field out on the edge of town,and know my soul is where my mama always prayed that it would go and if your ready this I'm already home. I do believe she is in a great place.
