John Fitzgibbon

John “Fitz” Fitzgibbon, 73, passed away at his home Sunday, June 30, 2013.

Fitz was born May 17, 1940, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Austin and Nellie (VanderMillon) Fitzgibbon. He owned Fitz’s Pub and was a route salesman for Central City Liquor. Fitz was an avid Hawkeye fan, and was proud to have served three terms in the Army, Air Force and National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Virginia, Charles, Carole, Pat, and Mike.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Kirk (Heidi) Fitzgibbon and their children, Bailey and Maggie; daughter, Shannon (JC) Pickering and their children, Tori, Taylor, Sammy, and Kiley; mother of his children, Carolyn Fitzgibbon; ex-wife, Karolyn Fitzgibbon and her children, Kelly Davis, Randy Ford, Sherry Davis, Kim Ford, and Chrissy Kuenkel; siblings, Bob, Paul, Liz, Nancy, Judy, Joyce, and Mary; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Fitz will be held 11 a.m., Monday, July 8, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with a visitation for an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Monday at 12:30 p.m.
