Kay Jean Tubaugh passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines on Sunday, June 30, 2013. She was born July 12, 1956, in Estherville, Iowa, to Gus Christ Poulos and Leona (Madden) Poulos. She graduated from Estherville High School, and later attended both Iowa Lakes Community College and Des Moines Area Community College. Kay held various jobs over the years, from assisting with the Head Start program to working at Child Serve.
Kay was a special woman who was always ready to lend a helping hand to others in need, or just be there to listen. She loved to laugh, her grandchildren, her pets, the color purple, the smell of lilacs, and so much more. She enjoyed reading books, doing crafts or drawing, and spending time with loved ones.
Kay is survived by her children, Lindsay Spencer (John), Christopher Fowlie (Brandi), and Jillian Pierson (Eddie); brother, James Poulos; multiple nieces and nephews; and five grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Doyle Wessling and John Poulos; sister-in-law, Barbara Poulos; niece, Kelly Poulos; nephew, Terry Poulos; and her parents, Gus and Leona Poulos.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, July 11, 2013, in the chapel at Valley View Village, 2571 Guthrie Avenue in Des Moines.

How special you were. I made promises to you when I didn't know how painful it would be to go back to v v village. I rejoice thart you are now set free to do all the things you've missed over the years. We will see each other again .
