Eddie Abegg, 70, died Saturday, June 29, 2013 unexpectedly at Mercy Medical Center. He was born October 18, 1942 in Des Moines and graduated from Saydel High School.

Eddie served in the Air Force and retired from Warren Transport as a truck driver after 28 years. He was a member of Boline Manfredi VFW Post 9662 and Fraternal Order of Eagles #109. Eddie was an avid sprint car racing fan and spent every weekend of the summer at Knoxville Raceway. He enjoyed cheering for the Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers, dancing, and spending time with his family and friends.

Eddie is survived by his sister, Jackie Cavanaugh; brother, Jon Lindbeck; godson, Tom (Kathleen) Cavanaugh; Grandma Burt; cousins, Janis (Bob) Meek, Jim (Sue) Locke, and Micky (Sherry) McCleary; cousin-in-law, Donna Jurgensen; his loving dog, Boo; numerous other god-children; and so many beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Lindbeck; infant sister, Shari Kay Lindbeck; and cousin, Burt Jurgensen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2013 at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Avenue, with burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m on Thursday at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 121 NW 60th Avenue.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family in order for them to purchase a brick in Eddie’s honor on the Wall of Fame at Knoxville Raceway or to the Animal Rescue League.
